Parametric Design with Artificial Intelligence: A New Era in Architecture

The integration of deep learning and evolutionary algorithms into architectural form-finding processes. From variation generation to optimization, the future of AI-driven design.

Over the past decade, architectural practice has undergone one of the most radical forms of digital transformation. Following computer-aided design (CAD) tools, parametric modeling platforms — and now AI-driven generative systems — are revolutionizing the traditional production process.

The parametric AI engine developed within REACTO is a hybrid system that runs in the Grasshopper / Rhino environment, simultaneously employing evolutionary algorithms (Genetic Algorithms and Particle Swarm Optimization) and deep neural networks (CNN / GAN). Within the constraints defined by the architect (site boundaries, zoning regulations, budget), the system generates thousands of geometric variations within seconds.

The architect no longer draws a single form; instead, they tell the algorithm which parameters matter: daylight efficiency, visual privacy, wind corridors, view axes. The algorithm autonomously generates and ranks forms that optimize each of these criteria. By selecting among the highest-scoring variations, the architect brings human judgment and aesthetic sensibility into the process.
